Search with Boolean search operators

The use of Boolean operators or commands is crucial for the clever application of keywords. It enables a structured search process to specifically search resumes on XING for suitable talents. Instead of individual keywords, complex commands known as search chains are created.

The most important commands

• AND: This allows you to search for multiple terms in the search engine.
  Example: Marketing AND Manager will only find talent profiles that contain both marketing and manager. Again, the order does not matter.
• OR: Returns all search results that contain at least one of the two terms.
  Example: Sales OR Account OR Salesperson finds all talent profiles that contain at least one of these search terms, regardless of the order.
• NOT: Use this to exclude certain search results.
  Asterisk: Use the asterisk (*) if you are unsure of the spelling or want to get the largest possible number of hits.
  Example: mark* finds both market and market research, marketing, markup, etc.
• Quotation marks: If you put a keyword in quotation marks ("..."), the search engine will spit out the exact hits that contain only the term.
  Example: "Key Account Manager" will only find talent profiles that contain all three words in exactly this spelling and exactly this order.
• Minus sign operator: Use this to exclude words from the search that contain the word after the minus sign. Always use this exclusion search at the end of your search string.
